Hi! I’m Cindy, nice to meet you ♥
I thrive with Eb since I was born in 1991 but it wasn’t until 2017 that I was formally diagnosed.
My subtype is Dystrophic dominant EB, it came from my Grand-mother, who passed to my mother who passed to her three children: my sister, my brother and me.
I’m the eldest one so I guess that’s why I got the most of it? Or not. Any way, my brother and sister have Simplex, as my mother. My grand-mother seems to have dystrophic too.
It’a a family thing that’s way it’s a dominant gene.
My childhood
I was born in a small country called Luxembourg. At the age of 6 we moved to Portugal. That’s where I spent my whole childhood.
It wasn’t easy, but I was fortunate enough to have had my family to help me through it.
I have experienced the weight of discrimination, loneliness and the desire to end it all. But my mother was there for me, every step, every moment, she never let me fall into my demons.
She forged me. Taught me to be strong, to ignore other people’s looks. I owe everything to her because she’s the reason I became the woman I am today.
My journey
In 2007 we left Portugal and moved back to Luxembourg. I was able to follow my high school studies in Belgium as well as the university.
I graduated in 2015 with a degree in Computer Graphics with a specialization in web design.
I was hired directly in a company in Luxembourg where I worked as a Graphic Designer and Webdesigner for 1 year and 7 months.
My big change
Three years ago I decided to make a big change in my life. I wasn’t happy at work, there was too much pressure. Because of my EB I started getting sick a lot and I couldn’t handle a full 8 hour day at work.
Eventually, I was laid off and I found myself without a job and without the right to the unemployment system.
My boyfriend didn’t pass his permanent contract either, he also had to find another job. So we decided together that for my skin, we were going to move to a warm country near the sea, so we moved to Spain.
We started our own web strategy and design agency. It changed my life. Being able to manage my time has allowed me to reconcile my work with my private life while taking care of my skin.
